DeBakey families:  The attached was sent by HISD Superintendant to provide information about school finance.

Dear Friends:

The 86th Texas Legislative Session is underway, and school finance reform is the top priority in Austin. For years, HISD and school communities across Texas have urged state lawmakers to fix school finance. We’ve been building momentum since HISD started paying recapture several years ago, but we need the support of our community to keep the conversation at the forefront.

HISD has created a #FixSchoolFinance toolkit  (as an online resource for supporters like you to learn more about the current school finance system and why immediate change is needed at the state level. The #FixSchoolFinance toolkit gives you access to the key decisionmakers in Austin. You can email, call and tweet state lawmakers directly from the toolkit.

You can access the toolkit online at

It is time to fix school finance. Please make sure your voices are heard in Austin.

Thank you for your support.
