The Association for Pre-College Program Directors is proud to present the 2021 Summer Pre-College Program Fairs, a series of virtual events that provide students and their families the opportunity to learn about academic summer programs at top US college and universities.

Representatives from Johns Hopkins Engineering (Explore Engineering Innovation and Biomedical Engineering Innovation) will be at the fairs on:

At each fair, attendees may:
  • Visit virtual booths, where you can ask questions via text or video chat with summer program representatives.
  • View helpful webinars on how to choose a summer program, how to strengthen your application, how to make the most out of your summer program experience.
Registration is FREE to attendees. We invite you to visit the Virtual Fairs website at https://www.summerstudyintheusa.org/virtualstudentfairs for complete information on dates, times, and which institutions will be represented at each event. We also encourage you to visit SummerStudyintheUSA.org, where you can search participating programs by your grade level, academic interests, and more.

Tulane Pre-College Programs
Tulane Pre-College Programs invites you to the Association for Pre-College Program Directors’ 2021 Summer Pre-College Program Fairs, a series of virtual events that provide students, families, and education professionals the opportunity to learn about academic summer programs at top US college and universities. We will have representatives at the fair TODAY, February 3rd, from 7 PM – 9 PM EST.
At each fair, attendees may:
  • Visit virtual booths, where you can ask questions via text or video chat with summer program representatives.
  • View helpful webinars on how to choose a summer program, how to strengthen your application, and how to make the most out of your summer program experience.
Registration is FREE to attendees. You can visit the Virtual Fairs website for complete information on dates, times, and which institutions will be represented at each event. Duke Pre-College
Duke Pre-College invites you to attend the 2021 Summer Pre-College Virtual Program Fairs! Learn about summer programs for high school students at Duke University and other top colleges and universities from across the United States.
  • Visit virtual booths to ask questions and text or video chat with program representatives.
  • Participate in webinars on choosing the right summer program for you, strengthening your application, and enhancing your experience to make the most of your summer program.

THE SENIOR CLASS IS STILL SELLING APRONS

The Class of 2021 has worked very hard throughout the last four years, especially this last year of not seeing each other. They deserve a heart-warming celebration for their accomplishments. Please support the Senior Class with your purchase of the aprons. To purchase, please email fundraising@debakeypto.org your name and the quantity that you would like. You can pick up your apron. You can pick up your at either one of the two following locations. If you have the exact change or check (made payable to DeBakey PTO) that would be great.

Virtual Volleyball for all students/all grades. Please encourage your student to sign up to attend. We may not be able to play in person (yet), but we can online. Volleyball meets Tuesdays & Thursdays 4 pm – 5 pm via Zoom. No experience needed, all levels welcome. Topics will include: skills, ball handling, positions, nutrition, exercise, drills, indoor/beach, teamwork, conditioning, rules of play,  and much more.  This will help us get ready for when we can play in person. Students who are interested please email 9thliaison@debakeypto.org.  More information is posted on the HUB for students.

After School Chess Lesson at Debakey High School

SIGN-UP DEADLINE: January 28th, 2021

All levels are welcome to join. The DeBakey Chess Club has a well established program and the proper software to teach chess online. No late entries will be accepted because we will need to plan accordingly.  The lessons will be on Mondays from 4:30-5:30pm and will begin Monday, February 1st, 2021.

Kylan Naidoo, the President of the DeBakey Chess Club, will use his committee to teach chess to all the students that are interested.  All interested students will need to join by January 28th, 2021.

HPA MEETING

Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), Admissions Department, invites all interested SENIORS and their parents to attend an informational meeting concerning the 2021 Houston Premedical Academy (HPA). Representatives from BCM and University of Houston (UH) Honor’s College will present important changes to the application process and implementation of the HPA.  Join the meeting on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm via Zoom. The Zoom link and password has been emailed.  If you are a parent of a Senior and did not receive an email with this information, please email Andrea at communications@debakeypto.org to receive the Zoom link.

RapidDx Laboratory is a Houston based high complex molecular lab that uses cutting-edge technology to provide the community a safer, faster, and more accurate way of receiving COVID-19 testing.  They provide RT-PCR testing with a 24-hour result turnaround time. HAPPY NEW YEAR

 

Happy New Year and welcome back!  We hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing winter break.  On December 17, 2020 the PTO Teachers’ Appreciation team delivered hot lunches and Christmas gifts to school for the entire staff of 87.  They were given choices between American burgers, Italian lasagnas, Mexican torta and tinga, as well as Chinese chicken salad or Lebanese chicken fattoush for lunch.  Each also received an apron for a Christmas gift. Thank you Trina and  Ziba!

BENEFACTOR WALL UPDATE

Dear Parents,

We’ve made it through 2020!  Thank you so much for all of your support to the school and the PTO.  Let’s start 2021 with exciting news.  First, the school will soon have its first Benefactor Wall by the end of January or early February.  If you would like to give your family or child a gift of a lifetime while helping the students at DeBakey HSHP have an enriched learning experience, you can purchase a name plaque on the Benefactor Wall.  Click onto this link to make your contribution:

VIRTURAL BINGO for All students/All grades

Encourage your student to sign up in advance. All DeBakey students are welcome to play Virtual Bingo on January 19, 2021 @7pm. Must register in advance by emailing 10thliaison@debakeypto.org .Reservations accepted until 1/18/21 at 6pm. **Prizes will be awarded.** More information will be posted on the HUB for students.

11th Grade: January 26, 2021 7:45 am – 12:00 pm

10th Grade: February 23, 2021 7:45 am -12:00 pm

Students were to sign up on the HUB by January 7, 2021 to reserve a spot. The PSAT will be at administered at DeBakey and all other students will be virtual those days.
