Donation Opportunity: YOYO Team

Dr. Li is seeking yo-yo donations for the DeBakey YoYo team. The YoYo team was created to give students a chance to exercise more, learn to build teams, collaborate with others and release mental stress. In the past, the team had been invited to perform at MIMS, Carnegie HS, and even the Taiwanese YES Festival.

Donations and Volunteers Needed: Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Final Exercise

Attention 11th grade parents! Donations and volunteers are needed to assist with the Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Final Exercise. For 11th graders in the Health Science Practicum class, students will go into the field to use the skills they've learned in class within a real/simulated environment. This includes team building activities.

Please drop off donations at the front office by February 19 with a note for Ms. Bauldry. The last rotation is scheduled to participate on March 22, 2024.

Recruiting Speakers for our Feb 23 Science Symposium

ATTENTION: Parents, guardians, community, alumni - if you or someone you know might like to present about their interesting career to our students, please contact us for more information. This is an event for our students. We welcome engaging speakers preferably STEM, medical, finance, motivational and passionate persons willing to share.

Interested? Contact: President@debakeypto.org

Field Day Chair & Committee

ATTENTION: PTO is still looking for a volunteer to lead this fun event  along with committee members to help support! The event takes place in March, the day before Spring Break.

DeBakey Field Day is wonderful highlight for the DeBakey students in the spring.  The festival includes a carnival like atmosphere with lots of games, rides, food trucks, ice cream, and cupcakes.

A chairperson would be responsible for working with the school administration to ensure all activities have been ordered, the food trucks have been requested, and that we have enough water, ice cream, and cupcakes/snacks for all the students. This may require requesting donations. This position does not require a lot of time throughout the year but is incredibly involved from approximately January until the event occurs just before Spring Break.

Baylor College of Medicine Research Study for Teens

This Baylor College of Medicine research study uses advanced computer technology to examine language use and facial expressions in adolescents who are either anxious, depressed, autistic, or have no mental health concerns. This research will help us develop better diagnostic tools and learn more about how teens communicate socially and emotionally.

During a single in-person research visit, participants will complete a series of general psychological assessments and interact with research staff on various conversational and behavioral tasks. We are currently recruiting participants between the ages of 12-17 both with and without mental health diagnosis. This study is eligible for compensation and volunteer hours, and families will receive a detailed assessment summary report from a study clinician following their participation.

For questions, contact ACES-Study@bcm.edu.
